Mean Number of Completed Births According to Parity Progression Ratios in Korea

Abstract
From the data on the number of women ever-married and the number of children everborn by the time of the census done in 1960, 1966 and 1970, parity progression ratios land the mean number of completed live births were calculated for each cohort respectively.
As the 1960 census was undertaken before the Korean National Family Planning Program was introduced, comparison between the parity progression ratio and the mean number of completed live births per ever-married woman from 1966 census data with corresponding ratio and births from 1970 census would indicate if these indices have been changing during the ten-year intercensal period.
The levels of parity progression ratio for the women aged 40 to 44 did not show any significant change in the ten-year intercensal period. However the mean number of completed live births for the women with higher education were smaller than that of the women with less education.
In Seoul city and Gyunggi province, a neighbouring province of Seoul city, the mean number of completed live births by the 1970 census were smaller than the mean numbers of the rest of provinces.
